What is the system registry?

We often hear about or experience system registry errors, but the average computer user has no idea what the registry even is.  There are a few basic things to know about it.

The Windows registry is a database that stores options, settings, and basic system information for Windows operating system PCs.  It also stores hardware information and user settings.  It's basically the core of your PC's operations.  Think of it like the brain of the computer.
