Registry Easy: Why it Works

If you've been looking for a solution to PC sluggishness or constant windows popping up whenever you boot up your computer that tell you something is wrong, you may have heard about registry cleaning software.  Registry repair programs (at least the legitimate ones) can provide a simple way to speed up your PC.  They go through your registry and automatically detect spyware, old unnecessary files, and pretty much anything else that will slow down your PC's overall performance.

Here's the quick rundown on Registry Easy, one of the most popular and affordable registry cleaning programs available.

Pros

  • Downloadable
  • Cheap
  • Easy to install
  • No lengthy updates required
  • Cleans your computer fast
  • Added bonus software to make your PC run even better
Cons
  • Initial scan is free; full program must be purchased
  • No live support
Registry Easy costs $35 for one PC.  It is a one-time fee; no subscription is required.

Bottom line? Buy Registry Easy if you want a quick and easy way to get the junk and dirt out of your computer.  You will see very quick results after just one scan.

Don't buy it if you would prefer to manually edit your registry or don't want to pay the fee for the software itself.

Are Registry Cleaners Effective?

Registry cleaning software has seen a rise in users because of the ever populating viruses and malware floating around the net.  Registry cleaning programs exist for one reason: to help users who don't understand system hardware or the system registry but want to safely clean out malicious programs from their PCs.

Some people say registry cleaners are worthless; some say they get a lot out of it.  It all depends on what your needs are.

A registry cleaning program will go into your computer's registry, find malicious programs from malware, spyware, and viruses, and get rid of it.  Most registry cleaners also have added virus protection or system cleaning tools to help you keep your computer in ideal shape.

A registry cleaner can help you get rid of and prevent invasive operations on your computer.  Your system registry becomes cluttered over time with remnants from old programs or hardware you've installed, and the malware/viruses only make it more sluggish.  Because your registry is so vital to your computer's basic operations, having a cluttered, dirty registry means your computer will run more slowly in general.

So are registry cleaners really effective?  Are they worth investing in?  It basically depends on why your computer is running slowly.  If you primarily have malware and virus problems, it's best to find a good malware cleaner and antivirus program and do a thorough system scan/clean.   If you have a legitimate registry problem, you can either clean it yourself (which can be dangerous to your system if you don't know what you're doing), or you can get a registry cleaner.  It's essentially a question of time vs. money: would you rather take the time to learn how to fix it yourself, or get a program to do the work for you?

A great free antivirus program

Today I learned about avast!, the free antivirus program that has a great reputation and blocks most of the more recent harmful programs.  I was actually recently infected by one that pretended to be an antivirus program, but wouldn't let me do anything on my computer except input my credit card number.  It falsely infected all my files and claimed the only way for me to fix it was to buy this software.

I believe it's called Total Security, so be on the lookout for any viruses like this.  They play on fear and desperation - OH NO, MY COMPUTER'S INFECTED AND I CAN'T DO ANYTHING!  The trick is to stay calm, try booting in safe mode (F8 when your PC first starts up) and go online to find a good fix for whatever's breaking your computer.  If it's happening to you, it's happened to someone else, and inevitably, they've found a way to fix it.

Is your PC slow? It may not be malware

When our computers start getting sluggish, we usually blame spyware and malware and other malicious programs that have infiltrated our PCs and corrupted them.  But malware isn't always the culprit; sometimes, computer and browser slowness are the result of disk fragmentation, corrupt system files, lack of RAM, dirty hardware, or too many programs running at once.

The older your system gets, the more 'stuff' gets put on it - the natural result being sluggish performance.  Windows Vista is especially bad for this because it's such a memory-intensive operating system.  There are a few things you can do to speed up your PC's performance:

1. Clean the inside of the computer

Dust impedes airflow and prevents proper cooling.  This can lead to overheating and fan destruction which can result in unexpected shutdowns, bluescreening, booting problems, etc.  Even if you use a laptop computer, you still need to clean it as well.

2. Remove unnecessary programs

The add/remove programs feature in the control panel is your friend.  Use it to get rid of any software you don't use any longer.  You may even find things on there you didn't know you had, since many features come bundled with other software and are installed automatically.

3. Transfer off old files

Store your music, data, and pictures to a CD or external hard drive.  Then run Disk Cleanup to scan for files your PC no longer needs.  The less clutter it has, the better it will run.

Also, run CCleaner  as an alternative to Disk Cleanup if you want.  It will get rid of unnecessary files very quickly.

You may also have system registry errors.  In this case, you need to take time to specially clean and edit the registry to get your PC back up to speed.

What is the system registry?

We often hear about or experience system registry errors, but the average computer user has no idea what the registry even is.  There are a few basic things to know about it.

The Windows registry is a database that stores options, settings, and basic system information for Windows operating system PCs.  It also stores hardware information and user settings.  It's basically the core of your PC's operations.  Think of it like the brain of the computer.

The registry is editable through the regedit.exe program.  However, it is NOT advised to edit the registry on your own unless you have first backed it up or have extensive technical knowledge of Windows operating systems.  This is why registry-cleaning software is so valuable; it does the work for you without harming your registry and even backs it up for you first.

If you are wondering if malware can affect your registry, the answer is yes.  However it is also important to note that some malware can even pose as registry cleaning software.  Do not purchase any registry cleaner unless you are sure that it is legitimate, safe, and is backed up by thorough user testaments.
